Ingredients

  • ½ tbsp butter unsalted
  • 2 slices bread whole wheat
  • 1 large tomato thinly sliced
  • 2 slices cheddar cheese reduced fat

Optional toppings:

  • slices of avocado, scrambled eggs, black pepper, Italian seasoning, fresh basil leaves

Instructions

  • Wash hands with soap and water. Gently rub tomato under cold running water before cutting.
  • Prepare the tomato by cutting it into thin slices 
  • Heat a medium-sized non-stick pan on the stove over medium heat
  • Add the butter to the pan and swirl around until the butter melts
  • When the butter begins to bubble, add the two slices of bread to the pan. Add one slice of cheese to each piece of bread. Add 3-4 slices of tomato to one of the bread. Cover the pan with a lid for 1-2 minutes to allow the cheese to melt
  • Once the slices of bread are golden brown, combine them to make a sandwich
  • Serve with a side of fruit and/or vegetables for a complete meal

  • Instead of whole wheat bread you can use any other plain bread Instead of tomato you can use cooked mushroom slices
