The Pacific Tracker (version 3.1, or "PacTrac 3") is an online dietary assessment tool that includes foods unique to Hawaiʻi and Pacific Islands. After providing a day's worth of dietary information, you will receive feedback on the overall quality of your diet for that day. The analysis of your diet is based on the types and amounts of food you ate compared to those recommended by the USDA Dietary Guidelines for Americans, 2005, and MyPyramid.
Since the development of PacTrac, USDA has replaced the Food Guide Pyramid with MyPlate. While these nutrition tools have a somewhat different emphasis, the food groups and number of recommended servings are very similar. In the most recent 2020-2025 Dietary Guidelines for Americans, there is an emphasis on the importance of dietary patterns on health, emphasizing that, “every bite counts.” This focus stems from the evidence that the combinations of foods and beverages that individuals consume impact health.
The Dietary Guidelines also emphasize the importance of healthy dietary patterns across the lifespan and the importance of individualizing a diet to meet an individual’s personal and cultural food preferences. They also emphasize limiting added sugars and solid fats in the diet.
PacTrac will give you information such as the amounts of total fat, saturated fat, cholesterol, and sodium in your diet compared to recommendations.
