Food and Money Basics (FMB) is an adult learning curriculum based on the USDA Guidelines for Americans and Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans. The FMB class series is developed for single adults and kupuna throughout Hawaiʻi. The class series is made up of the following lessons: A Food Guide, Safe Food Handling, Spending Less Eating Better, Rethink Your Drink, Balancing Act, and Microwave Cooking. Each class includes physical activity demonstrations, a tasting of locally grown fruit and/or vegetables, and may be accompanied by an optional food demonstration where educators show participants how to prepare healthy budget friendly meals at home. Classes are taught by our SNAP-Ed Nutrition Educators who understand the unique challenges affecting our populations in Hawaiʻi.
Thanks for providing this class. It presented updated information regarding nutrition, food safety, budget, cooking-that was helpful. The Nutrition Educator was patient, knowledgeable, and prepared.
Awesome instructor, assertive, fun and lots of knowledge.
Being in a senior rental building was most appreciated and I hope the Nutrition Educator will also help other senior citizens elsewhere. I was most thankful they picked our building… so lucky!
I like the class, my mom likes the cookbook. We will make food together.
These classes have motivated me so much to focus on and continue with a healthy lifestyle.
All the areas presented were very informative and provided a lot of useful information that can be used in daily lives.
The reason for rating this 5 is because I truly learned something new every time. The value of prep and saving is valuable to me.
Because it taught me a lot of different techniques to use in my daily life.
Good information, well presented. Also, reinforced what I already knew and reminded me what should be done.
Upon completion of the Food and Money Basics class series, participants will receive a certificate of completion, kitchen supplies, and the Food Skills Cookbook which includes tasty local recipes and tips to prepare healthy meals and snacks at home.
