Grow Your Own

Grow Your Own helps beginner gardeners to grow, maintain and harvest their own edible plants. Participants will engage in hands-on activities to learn how to plant seeds or seedlings and maintain their plants. Participants will need to be concurrently enrolled in a core curriculum (Eating Smart Be Active or Food and Money Basics) with Grow Your Own.

Lessons

6 FREE virtual lessons in beginning gardening

Learning what equipment and materials are needed to plant seeds

Learning the different parts of the plants, how to set up a garden or containers at home, and how to transplant seedlings or cuttings

Learning what type of nutrients are important for plants to grow

Learning what is compost and how it can enhance the soil for plants to grow

Learning about various plant pests and diseases and plant preventive methods

Learning about various plant pests and diseases and plant preventive methods

*Participants will receive seeds, seedlings or cuttings, potting mix, pots, and fertilizer with its corresponding lesson.
